Services Provided:

The Farney Community Resource and Information Centre has now moved from its Main Street premises to a ground floor accessible location in the Old Union Workhouse on the Shercock Road Carrickmacross.

The Resource Centre was originally opened in 1994 and was located in the basement of the Catholic Hall, in 1995 the Centre moved to 52 Main Street.

Since it's opening in 1994 the centre has dealt with over 15,000 queries and assisted 500 persons into full or part time employment.

At the Resource Centre there is a wide range of information available to people from south Monaghan and its environs, including the following;

Social Welfare
Information available on all Social Welfare payments and eligibility criteria including payments for Widows, Retired People, Disability, Maternity, One Parent Families, Farmers, Carers etc

Employment Rights and Conditions
Information on Annual Leave, Minimum Wage, Employment Contracts, Redundancy, Unfair Dismissal, Part -time employees, Maternity Leave, Parental Leave, Sick Leave etc

Education and Training
Information on training and education courses in the North East region including FAS, VEC, Mifet, Dundalk Institute of Technology, O'Fiaich, NTDI, Distance Learning courses as well as local course providers including HITEC, Kelby training, Oak Computer Training, and VEC night classes.

Welfare to Work Incentives
Information on Back To Work Allowance, Revenue Job Assist, FAS Schemes including Community Employment, Jobs Initiative, Social Economy, Workplace.

Health Board Payments
Information on Medical Cards, Rent Allowance, Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance, Domiciliary Care Allowance, Urgent and exceptional Needs payments, Mobility Allowance, etc

The Centre also acts a referral service to the many agencies that operate in the North East including

- Carrickmacross Local Employment Service
- County Monaghan Partnership
- County Monaghan Citizens Information Centre
- Drumlin Community Development Project
- North Eastern Health Board
- Social Welfare all Divisions

The centre also provides office service facility for faxing, emailing, CV preparation and photocopying.

Assistance is also available to people who need help with in filling in forms whether it is for social welfare reasons or filling out a job application.

Computer/ Internet Access
Since the move to the Workhouse the Resource Centre provides a facility for Computer and Internet Access. Members of the community can call to the centre to look up information on the Internet, apply for benefits or employment on-line, send emails, type up their CV, look up Job Vacancies etc.

All of the services available at the Resource and Information Centre are available free of charge because of the funding the Centre has received from the EU Special Programme For Peace and Reconciliation administered by ADM/CPA.
