CONTRACTS are to be signed in the next six to eight weeks by the HSE and the Workhouse Build for the provision of a new Healthcare facility to include physiotherapy and speech therapy services in the building at least for a period of four to five years. This was made know by Town Mayor, PJ O'Hanlon at a council gathering at the historical Carrickmacross building on Monday night.

The provision of the new facility will mean patients can have treatment in the locality without admission to hospital. The new facility, which will occupy considerable floorspace at the Workhouse Building, will house public health nursing services which will largely be transferred from the Clinic on St Macartan’s Villas. Services will also include occupational therapist services.

Once the contracts are signed preliminary works will have to be carried out on the workhouse to enable the necessary facilities to be put in place to deliver the new services later this year. The Mayor paid tribute to Kevin Gartlan and his team for their hard work in ensuring that these HSE services are going to be located in the Workhouse Building. ‘This new centre will provide excellent care to local people in our own locality. To have such a range of services easily accessible to people in Carrick will greatly benefit the community,’ concluded Mayor. O’Hanlon
